Welcome to LMI RiskCoach

LMI RiskCoach is an internet-based risk management and insurance resource consisting of detailed reports and check lists for thousands of industries prepared by and continually updated by specialists. Admission to LMI RiskCoach is via an annual subscription which allows access to a wealth of information on an industry by industry basis.

How to get started

Search for the industry you want to research. Refer to how to search for an industry below.
Select your industry from the search results. Parent categories can be expanded to show all industries that match your search criteria. Click on the industry to open up the content for that industry.
After you have selected an industry, you can use the navigation panel on the left hand side to view content in each of the sections. The first page displayed is the hazard index.
At any stage you can select a new industry by searching for a new industry in the same way.

How to search for an industry

You are able to either search for an industry by ANZSIC code or description or browse for an industry from a list of your recently accessed industries, from an alphabetical list, or in an industry category hierarchy view.

To search
The search field is at the top of the left hand menu, underneath the CIP logo, or can also be accessed in the Browse Industries page view. Hint: type in a key word rather than a phrase – less is more when it comes to searching.

To browse
Click on Browse Industries to access the browse industry page. From here you can select any of the browsing options listed above i.e. from a list of your recently accessed industries, from an alphabetical list, or in an industry category hierarchy view. The “recent industries” button will show only the 10 most recent industries you have accessed.

For each class of insurance, a risk grade known as the LMI Hazard Index is provided as an indication of hazard for that industry. The grading classification used is: 1-30 = Low 31-60 = Medium 61-90 = High 91-100 = Extreme. Uses of the hazard index include: identifying industries which require further examination before coverage is granted; identifying problem areas within an industry type; obtaining an impression of the overall degree of exposure associated with the industry by class. Risk Coach provides comments where appropriate. Comments sometimes accompany the hazard index number. These comments call attention to major areas of loss or factors that may modify loss potential.	Hazard Index	To assist insurance brokers and insurance advisers show the need for insurance cover, the first section of Risk Coach provides photographs, and if available, video footage of major losses involving businesses in the selected industry.	Photographs & Video Footage	Statistics obtained from police, fire authorities, WorkCover and the insurance industry will be provided with regular updates.	Loss Statistics
This section contains summaries of various claims submitted by contributors or from the LMI claim database which illustrate important insurance and risk related issues for the industry selected.	Loss Lessons	Significant Exposures is a list of the common hazards for the industry under review that should be considered in evaluating a particular risk within that industry. The overview includes a definition of the industry or the parameters used to define the industry in this Guide.	Risk Description
This section walks the user though the operations or methods of production used in the selected industry.	Service or Process	As the name suggests this section lists the materials and equipment likely to be used in this industry	Materials & Equipment	An assessment of the risk posed for each class of insurance is provided in this section, where appropriate.	Risk Assessment
This section provides a summary of cases with application to the industry classification being reviewed, together with links to the full judgment of any superior court in Australia for each case listed.	Case Law	This section identifies the likely risks, provides initial analysis and recommended loss control measures.	Risk Checklist	A listing of insurance providers/policies developed for or suited to this particular industry.	The Market
A comprehensive list of endorsements that should be considered for an Insured in the industry category.	Endorsement Lists	The Australian & New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (“ANZSIC”) has been produced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the New Zealand Department of Statistics for use in the collection and publication of statistics in the two countries. Risk Coach classifies the industries by this code.	Industry Codes	Within the broad classification of an industry, a number of subsidiary operations may be involved in the performance or the manufacture of a product. Such processes or products present potential risks that should be taken into consideration.	Connected or Interrelated Activities
A glossary of terms specific to the industry category. This will allow those who deal with the Insured (advisers, underwriting and claims/loss adjusting staff) and equally important, those who are underwriting the risk and may be not have direct access to the Insured to understand the terms, chemicals, acronyms used in a particular industry. Often a term has a different meaning in an industry to its every day meaning or the meaning attributed to it by the insurance industry.
